Cemetery & Trustees

There are over one hundred private cemeteries on private lands in the Town of Phippsburg.  Although the cemetery trustees are not responsible for their maintenance, all residents are encouraged to respect these sacred resting places. We appreciate the effort made by some folks and organizations to maintain these old, private cemeteries. The Phippsburg Cemetery Committee oversees the maintenance of the Town Owned cemetery, Morningside Cemetery. Morningside Cemetery is the Town's municipal cemetery and is located just off the Parker Head Road in a tranquil spot adjoining a tidal cove.

The Committee meets as needed at a location determined by the Trustees. 

The Phippsburg Cemetery District Trustees have reluctantly voted to raise the lot fees for Morningside Cemetery.  We have not raised our rates since 2014!  Maintenance and support costs are climbing, and we found that our lot fees are substantially lower than surrounding cemeteries. So, we have made the decision to increase our rates, but to also delay those increases. The new increases will take effect on January 1, 2025.

Below are our new rates (plus filing fee of $20.00):

Residential                $600 (currently $400 per lot)

Cremains Lot             $250 (currently $150 per lot)

Nonresidential          $1200 (currently $800 per lot)

Cremains Lot            $500 (currently $300 per lot)

Rule Reminders
Lot owners are reminded that the cemetery is closed to vehicular traffic from December 15th to April 15th.  Also, cemetery regulations prohibit the planting of shrubs and trees on grave lots.  No dogs allowed in Cemetery.
